The ancient settlement of Everton was once popular with wealthy Liverpool merchants who built large mansions to take advantage of the magnificent view. As Liverpool grew in wealth and population in the early nineteenth century hundreds of small houses were built on the hill, theses slums were demolished in the early 1960s to make way for modern concrete tower-block slums in the sky obliterating the view. Now all but a few of the tower-blocks have gone and the magnificent view has been restored
